Origami is a Pleasant Diversion

Posted 9 days ago

My friend recently walked me through some Origami. I helped make several different boxes created as 'belt' designs that I am showing here along with today's box that I made by myself (from the instructions in a book).

Working alone, albeit a previous design on which I just assisted, I nearly gave up. Trouble figuring out how to make the 'points' that go into the 'belt',. But when I tried to photograph my angst, I was able to see a 'diamond-shaped square' that would be the top of the box. Success Wow I feel amazed that I did it

Downtime

Posted Feb 2021

During this Party, the Guest's attention was turned to the Video Presentation while I was still supposed to be drawing Caricatures. That's not an unusual thing to happen ~ so many important things go on during a Party. But I'm there to Draw.

Some of that other stuff can slow me down, but I keep on keepin on. Even like this time, when the room suddenly got dark. It's a good chance to draw some candid expressions.

COVID Situation Causes Confusions

Posted Aug 2020

Oh my goodness. These days are like crazy for us Artists. I used to check Every Day for what's coming up, but COVID put a damper on things. So there I was, 2am last night, ready to end my day, when I remembered I wanted to check on when my Next booked Event will be. So I dragged myself back to my office to check my list ~ even though I figured it would be in about a Month. Since I just drew Caricatures at a Party last weekend.

Oh my goodness. Egads, egads. Dare I go to sleep? I saw that I had booked a Baptism for Tomorrow! Tomorrow! It had been Rescheduled from a previous date ~ because of the Pandemic.

So, oh ~ I just did much less than half of the stuff that I planned to do today ~ then turned my attention to tomorrow's Gig. What to do first? Clothes?? Supplies? Draw on Paper???

That's what I did. Looked online for a Reference Photo of a Baby Boy, and drew a Very Quick Caricature. It worked out great. So easy for me. I got right into it. Maybe I'll come back in with Color later, but for now..... Posting on my website. I like my Readers. I think of you often.

and I do have Supplies the Supplies that I had put together previously Before the original date had to be changed. Once I realized that I'd just have to Revamp that, I felt like I had a little more time to practice a Group Caricature for the Baptism.

So Online I went. I found a quick Reference Photo of 5 people together. Figured I'd draw the Baby first. But oh no. This was not useable. (That's the bottom face on the 2nd picture here). So I did some troubleshooting with my technique, and drew it much better ~ but using up the space where I planned on drawing the other people gotta go now

I got real good

Posted Jul 2020

Drawing along last night. Trying to Simplify my Caricatures again. I wonder if you can tell where it kicked in. I wonder if you can tell where i got 'good'.

I didn't want to stop. I was on a roll. But I had to stop sometime.

Figured that when I came back to it, I would know the answers. But aghk no. Tonight it took me several drawings of One Face before it even felt passable to me. I was able to see the Exaggeration, but wasn't drawing it successfully. I'm not going to waste our time posting what I drew tonight.

This wouldn't be a problem at a Party. If I wasn't happy with my new Simple Style, I could easily flip back into my old Exaggerated style with the Predraws. And I would feel so happy with that, that I would wonder why I ever considered changing it.

But I love this new style
