Flexible

Upscale Corporate Holiday Party. I was glad I brought my lights. (It was very dark in there). Good set-up. Yes.

But I was needed to walk the floor - roaming Caricatures for some of the time. Roaming Caricatures in the Dark. Now, Roaming Caricatures are a little different than seated Caricatures - because I draw them while standing up and holding all my supplies. So they’re usually simpler black/white pictures.

Since this party needed constant ‘adjustment’, I sure am glad that I’ve had a lot of experience. So I was able to
go with the flow.

December - Party Party and Party. Everybody wants to be invited.
And we all had Fun.

Through Rain or Snow or Sleet or Hail

December 22nd, 2009

There was a Blizzard in NY this weekend.

Snow lightly started as I left Wantagh to drive to Plainview (40th Surprise Birthday Party). But when I got back to my car at midnight, there was more than a foot of snow all around it! I borrowed my hostess’s shovel, and I got to work - after drawing/entertianing for over four hours! Then, I couldn’t figure out where the road ended and the sidewalk began as I drove home, getting caught in snowdrifts three times along the way. Finally got home, but I couldnt’ get in to my driveway - or to the side of the street where a car could be parked. Until I shoveled for over an hour.

Then I woke 6:00 a.m. to be sure I’d have enough time to get to the Water club in Manahattan. I draw there at a Holiday Party every year. Driveway needed to be shoveled again, but I was lucky - my husband finished the whole thing while I got ready to go out. My choice was to arrive at my event early or late. I arrived early. Was asked to wait by the fireplace while they finished setting up the party room. It was cozy.

A Blizzard does not stop NY. Both parties were full and lively. My gracious hostess from Saturday night had offered for me to stay there overnight (but I had to get back of course). And my beautiful hostess on Sunday morning —– the picture of class. You know you’ve arrived when you can wear a sleeveless silk dress in a blizzard. Here’s a photo of her:

She works hard - carried in all those gifts for the guests herself.
I’m proud to be a New Yorker. We don’t let problems stop the world.
We work hard, and we Handle them.

That was fun

December 13th, 2009

It’s a cold rainy day in NY today. A good day to go through some of these photos here. Look at these! I had drawn them on such a warm day that I was really glad that the hosts asked me to set up the Caricatures in the screened in porch:

Balvenie Scotch

December 13th, 2009

I’m part of a big national campaign for Balvenie Scotch.
Did 3 gigs for them in less than 2 weeks.
While waiting for the first event to start, I played around with the bottle:

Whew - I’m busy. It’s all good. It’s all wonderful.
Like, like yesterday - First I did face-painting for a woman who’s hired me 5 times already. And while I was at her Little Chefs party, one of the guests asked if I remembered working at that guest’s party - You remember - Caricaturing on the balls…. “Yes! That was the only time anyone had ever asked me to Caricature on balls. I remember being outside by the swingset….” And other one of the guests asked if I remembered working at another guest’s party too…. Then, in the evening, working at a liquor store for Balvenie Scotch, one of the customers was excited to see me - “I still have that Caricature you drew of me at the party on Wall Street….” Me: “Yes! I remember that party - I was in the middle of the room - Really drawing wildly that day….” And another customer: “You drew at my party - Remember….
I touch so many lives
under such good circumstances.
I’m so happy.

Thanksgiving Recipes

November 26th, 2009

Did something different today.
Since I did something different, I decided to post something different.
Today I shall tell you the recipes I made up for Thanksgiving dinner.
It was very good. Sugar-free, Wheat-free.

Turkey
Stuffing
Red Stuff
Gravy
Brussel Sprouts
Carrot Juice
Baked Apples
Organic Sweet Potatoes

Turkey:
Buy a little turkey.
Sprinkle it with nutmeg and rosemary.
Fill it with stuffing (see recipe below)
Sew it up!
Put in oven at 360-degrees
Check every half-hour or so til done

Stuffing:
Cook package of dried barley in water til starts getting soft
Cut up the following to mix into the barley:
2 apples
3 tangerines (long proces to take out the seeds - let me know if you need instructions for that)
2 stalks celery

Red Stuff:

Cook Stovetop:
4 bags of fresh cranberries
2 apples
handful of organic raisins
Quart of cut strawberries

Long time. Stir often. Til it breaks down and becomes ’sauce’

Sweet Potatoes:

Most important is to buy Organic.
Wash. Put on baking dish.
Cook at 550, until you’re ready to put the turkey in.
Then cook at 360 til soft

Mushroom Gravy:

Make a rue:
Heat a few TB oil in small fendl.
Add a few TB whole-wheat flour and stir til all incorporated.
Add 1/4 cup water at a time til you’ve incorporated 1 1/2 cups of water.
Add 1 cup diced mushrooms and cook for a while

Baked Apples:

Cut little caps off the top of the (MacIntosh or Fuji) Apples
Scoop out the apple-seeds
Stuff with Organic Raisins
Sprinkle with Cinammon
Place in glass baking dish
and cook til done (check every 20 minutes or so)
