Dom DeLouise

March 26th, 2009

I recently made some more drawings for the East Coast Brown Derby
Restaurant. Some of their requests are more famous than others.
In this batch, I recognized Dom DeLouise.

They like the Caricatures to be rather tame - more like the old-style
Caricatures. So this is what I drew - along with the Reference Photos
that they provided for me:

Small Pictures

March 25th, 2009

I finally figured out how very small I’d have to start my drawing in order to exaggerate consistently on the Small-Size Option. Some of the really good photos from this party came out too fuzzy. Still, I’m glad I got plenty to show:

The Bitter End

March 25th, 2009

I’m getting so good at this Career. Drawing, Getting around…… I even thought the drive all the way down NYC was okay on the day that I took these photos. I had driven from my Caricature gig in the Bronx all the way down to the Bitter End in Soho - just to see the Arkhams. I barely noticed the NYC traffic.

The Bitter End - It’s been around for a long time - Since the days of Light Shows. But how did this happen - When I tried to photograph the Arkhams with my new iphone, it still came out looking like a Light Show. Even though there wasn’t a Light Show going on. And I certinaly don’t have special speeds on the little iphone camera:

You would have thought that I had had enough drawing - just having worked a 3-hour party. The Arkhams energetic music managed to hold my interest. But I drifted off into just looking at some of the other bands that played that night. Here’s a picture of a girl I drew:

And here’s a picture of a bass that really held my interest. It was sooooo horizontal. And the strings were so noticeable:

Last Minute

March 20th, 2009

Yeow. Client just came to the Studio.
Brought me a deposit for
TONIGHT.

So much to prepare.
And she wants me to draw Outline-Only -
because she wants to get as many pictures
as possible in the given time.

I don’t usually do Outline-Only -
It feels more like
cranking them out
than doing Artwork.
But it is an Option I offer.

So now - get ready to draw a lot of Boy Scouts.
First I wanted to see what would happen if I choose a Yellow Outline -
If Golden-Boy sits in front of me:

Good thing I practice first. I can see that
that isn’t a good idea. I had to increase the time on that picture
by going back in with the black marker. The Yellow didn’t show up.

Okay. I hope I stick to Black Outlines. Or Blue. Or Orange…..

But what if someone sits down who has dark skin -
Here I’ll try one in which I add just a little bit of Shading.
Sometimes, you just can’t stop with Just the outline:

And……………
We’re Off!

Analyze That

March 19th, 2009

I am absolutely smitten. Can’t stop.

Finally relaxing after a long day or just doing my Artwork,
I started watching the movie ‘Analyze That’.
Had to stop to draw a character from the movie.
(Played by the actor Joe Viterelli)
Then, I drew it again. Had to exaggerate it some more:

I’m really in the mood to have a lot of
Studio Caricature commissions.
