These pictures were taken at a High School Senior Banquet. A break in the middle of the week
that I had been drawing another High School’s Graduating Class. And soon after another High School’s Prom.
I spend a lot of time with High Schools in May and June.
So I get a feel for the Social Pressure, what kinds of interactions are expected in each group.
They’re all similar, but there are subtle differences. I liked this group.
In my opinion, I’d guess that this group didn’t think they had to act all grown-up already.
It felt refreshing - like they admitted that they didn’t know it all already. Not that they
acted immature. They just seemed open for their first experiences which they knew they
didn’t have already. Just my opinion, of course. But the bravado that I see sometimes
makes me feel like High School Graduates have done everything already and they know all the answers
that I’m still figuring out:

Every year, I draw the graduating class of a local High School.
It keeps me in touch with the current trends.
Year after year, I felt like a was seeing a new group of
the same people - if you know what I mean.
This year, though, finally A Change! Styles and
self-care were dramatically different than they had been.
It was more like when I went to High School. In general,
the girls’ hair was flatter and messier. And the boys’ hair was
wilder and messier. More natural. Not quite looking like
everybody sees the hair-stylist every morning.
I’m hired to draw in black/white. Line only. I’ll post a few
of them here today:

I brought my car in for routine maintenance this morning.
They treat me like a Cadillac here. Let me use the
Copy machine for some coloring pages I made last night for a Clown.
And I used the water Cooler while they let me use the Computer while waiting.
Perusing this blog, I was inspired by my post of 5/28/08.
So I drew a 3/4 view picture from a front-view photo:

But I wondered if I would have easily had more intensity if I just drew what I saw:

Then I was looking through my sketches, and I found this one from when
I was working on my lineS quality at a recent Cooper Union Graduation:

So I tried a more careful picture of my front view.
What a difference the quality of the pen would have made:

Barely finished my last stroke
when the mechanic walked in.
Is my car finished? Yes!
