Gorilla on the Airplane

Posted Jan 2014

Oh this is a long ride coming back to NY from CA. Here I drew some line-art on my IPad. Based on a photo in a magazine, but I forgot to save the reference photo. I'm just glad I have my IPad with me. Even though this probably isn't going to help me handle IPad Party Caricatures

IPad Paintbrush

Posted Jan 2014

Well, spent a litl more time on this one. Still on the plane, but this time I included the Paintbrush tool. Takes longer to use that than the Pencil tool, so I hope I won't be tempted to use it at Parties if I'm working for a Client who wants as many products as possible.

Here's the magazine reference, the IPad outline, the IPad picture including Paintbrushing. Chagrinned because I wanted to focus on producing quickly, but, well, this is my time-off. In the last picture I even stuck an extra Layer of pink underneath it all. Not necessary, but, well, isn't Art for Fun? Not production. We're not like, handing out hotdogs at Parties. I like doing Artwork for real.

Happy Accidents

Posted Dec 2013

What it's like to be drawing in front of people. Easily. As though my brain can actually think two thoughts at the same time.

Not really possible. But I enjoy what comes out, and just deal with it. I keep responding to whatever happens. Or

Or I just let it be. With as much Surprise as the audience.

Perhaps you can understand it by what happened with this sign. My client was The Liquor Store. They paid me to draw at their Special Event. But I quickly realized that the store's customers thought Caricatures were just one more thing that they could buy there. So I decided to quickly make a sign to let them know that it was Free for them.

And look at what happened. A Happy Accident of Poetry because the girl that I had just drawn was still talking with me while I was making the sign. Sometimes lalala's happen in the Artwork, sometimes in the Conversation. It's all part of the Experience.

Did you catch it? Did you see that the sign says "Caricatrue instead of the Caricature that I had planned to write?
