The slightest difference

Posted Sep 2009

If you make the slightest difference in a picture, it comes out looking completely different.

Here I was drawing to see what would happen if I pulled the same long 'moustache-area' down or forward. Vertically or horizontally. And it ended up looking completely different

Sides of Faces - II

Posted Sep 2009

Oh - this is funny. I made up a face last night, thinking about that sides of faces thing again (see post of September 15, 2009). It's just a regular picture in which I was strongly aware of the side of the face. I worked on the idea some more again this morning, and I came here to post about it. So I looked for the original message. It's so funny - the face I made up is so similar to the face I had made up that day too:

then, this morning, I drew 'the same' face that I drew last night - but I pulled the side out longer. This is what I came up with. Yikes - that looks too weird:

and I drew it yet a 3rd time. This time, making the side of the face narrower. Here's what I came up with:

Not quite sure where this will take me - Maybe, just maybe I might want to draw a very thin person with a narrow face some day. But I don't think, unless perhaps I see a very skinny someone with very weird big hair? Oh, what's really wrong is the neck. It's not supporting that head at all. So I went back in with my mouse and added to the neck (I want a Cintiq!):

I have to come back to this idea another time. I'm still not satisfied that I studied it enough.

Sides of Faces - Part I

Posted Sep 2009

Studying the sides of faces. This is what I came up with last night. (I made up this face):

There's so much more I want to study - like, how to Caricature the SIDE of the face. (I hope I get up to doing that)

Time Off

Posted Jul 2009

Just making up faces. Just relaxing:

Well, actually the 3rd picture here was drawn while I was watching the movie 'Dodgeball'. So it's kind of an actress in that movie.

BTW,the 1st picture was drawn after studying shiny materials like chrome. I just wanted a chance to make those earrings.
