Loops and Scribbles

Posted Oct 2018

I never know where my studies will take me. Tonight I sat down to draw Lines with my Markers (as usual). But I noticed my Color Sticks here ~ Perhaps it would be a good idea to draw (wide-line) Shapes with Those instead.

I tried different Pressures. Nope.

I tried different Papers. Nope Nope.

Maybe I should stop using the Side of the stick. Maybe I should Color Color Color real fast with the Point of the stick. Well.... a little better.... a little smoother...... but I cuts into my mojo.

Perhaps I should use those Artist Chalks that I bought many years ago, but never used. No ~ I still feel like those add to the Show because people don't usually Color with their Gloved Fingers ~ but the actual picture comes out looking Wishy-Washy and it can get on people's Clothing.

Back to the Color Sticks. Perhaps there's a Colorless Blender around here ~ like I'd have time to do That at a Party. But no ~ I was never into that. So I tried to smooth the Color with a Wax Candle. That didn't work. Then ~ hahaha ~ I decided to just make Scribbles of Color with the Point of the Color Sticks (and a Few Small Side-Swipes) ~ and I developed this Playful Color Application. Looks Happy.

What a Surprise. As usual, I don't know where my studies will take me.

I don't see myself using this regularly at Events, but I just Might swing into it once in a while. Makes a Unique and Happy Caricature.

Oooh ~ almost 3 am ~ I'm feeling Loopy (Tired)

Getting ready to draw Caricatures at a Big Festival in Southampton this Saturday. To warm up, I decided to draw a new Caricature based on a Reaction Photo that I posted at this website recently. Without looking at the Caricature I had quickly drawn at the Party that day. So I could make sense out of this unique expression.

Hmmmm.... I see that the outside corners of the lower lip could be narrower than the inside corners of the upper lip in this case. At the usual double-bubble of the muscles of the lower lip were replaced with only One bigger sphere.

BTW ~ I was only using the Pink Paper for This Caricature because it was a Scrap Paper that I had here at my desk.

The Unhappy Mermaid

Posted Sep 2018

Darn it. I have to go to sleep already. So I can handle tomorrow's Event. But I want to Draw Draw Draw. Still on Mermaids because it is required for tomorrow's Party.

This time I decided to forego the upper body. Just go right into the Tail. Then I decided to keep it black and white. A black and white mermaid.

and how about sticking this Unhappy Mermaid under the water altogether ~ unable to get where the sun is. I figure that could be a good reason why she's sad. Not that water is bad ~ but being Confined ~ unable to move out of your place ~ that could make a Mermaid sad.

I just wish I didn't let the sun shine through onto the bottom of her tail. I feel like that diluted the message. But that's how it is with direct unedited work ~ done with Markers and Color Sticks that canNot be erased. The immediacy of this approach is excellent for capturing action or emotion ~ It's just cooler than overly edited overly controlled pictures. But it also has a downside. Like in this case ~ the yellow. I wish I didn't put the yellow onto the bottom of the 'tail'.

and i feel happy because it's imperfect.

Mermaids and Mermen

Posted Sep 2018

I was only given ONE DAY'S NOTICE that I will be drawing the CARICATURES as Mermaids and Mermen at my next Event Egads.

Whenever something unusual is expected, I prefer to have time to play around with some ideas Before I get to the Event. So I started drawing ~ here in my Studio. You can see how I was struggling to come up with a "Manly" Tail is that even necessary? Anyway, after I get these tame drawings done, I might be able to Wow Wild (I hope) with those Tails. I hope I have time to develop my ideas
