The Clown’s Coloring Book

March 15th, 2010

Yeow - A woman called me about a Coloring Book this week - just a regular party-prop based on the Party-Girl. I wanted to send her to see a Coloring Book that I created as a business ‘advertisement’ recently - but I couldn’t find the post. Is it possible that I hadn’t posted it?

Well, here’s a sample of it now - some of the pages. It’s a lot of work to make a Coloring Book, but it’s so worth it. Since my childhood was Coloroing Book, it was so much a part of me, I’m excited to think of the kids who would be carelessly taking for-granted the ones that I create for them. So much a part of their lives, and they probably won’t even realize it.

Middle-School

August 1st, 2009

A Middle-School Principal Retired. I was commissioned to draw his Caricature. Red Camaro, Skis, this is a picture of the school….. things like that were requested.

Here’s what I came up with. Of course, the finished picture was prepared for presentation in a mat, but this earlier photo is the closest to the original Color:

Convey My Love

June 30th, 2009

Ok - not too much is asked of an Artist.
Well, it’s fun, anyway.

This picture was commissioned by a real Romantic man
who asked me to make a Masterpiece to convey his feelings
to his Girlfriend for her 30th Birthday.
Not quite a simple task.

quote: Hello Alison:
I am counting on you, please!
30 years old, how important for one woman, I can not celebrate her birthday with her this year, so, please help me as “Joe Fox” to surprise “Kathrien Kelly” in the movie “you’ve got mail”, your masterpiece will represent my cake and flower, I can imagine that she will cry when see my sincere gift, thank you again, thank you! /endquote

Here’s what I came up with. Not too shabby, eh?
(I wish you could see the original - The colors are more subtle.
Magnificent. But they didn’t scan right.)

Oil Painting Continues

February 24th, 2009

It’s in the activity.
It’s the action.
It’s the doing it
that make it worthwhile to do Art.
I am So there. So in the moment. In the Zone.

I’m really figuring out these oil-painted Caricatures.
Here’s my latest one - shown step-by-step so I’ll
remember how I did it.

Oil-Painting

January 30th, 2009

I did it. A very productive morning for getting to projects that I ‘plan on doing when I get a chance’. I decided to practice an Oil-Painted Caricature. It had been stressful to do them in the past - because I was having trouble coordinating my favorite (alla-prima) oil-painting technique with my Caricature (marker) skills.

It came to me to try a different technique. I ‘found’ the Caricature while searching with a chiarascuro. In a way, it was easier than drawing a Caricature with a marker. Harder because there was more to do, but easier because this technique made it possible to do more.

(This was not a job - It was just for studying. I am now offering both chiarascuros as well as completely developed paintings as Gift Caricatures.)
