Fashionable Men's Suits

Posted 21 days ago

When I'm hired to draw Fashion Sketches, I usually plan for Fasheone ~ avante garde over the top stuff. But that's not always what I find at the Event. Many people show up with very simple understated clothes.

But it's all Fashion. Designers get it into the stores. People choose what they think looks good on them ~ to make a statement about who they want to be perceived as.

So today i chose a couple of reference photo of Grooms in fine understated suits (tux?). They both looked sooo similar.

Eeks this was hard for me. I finally got a handle on it when I decided to 'box up' my forms. Just a little.

I guess I have my work cut out for me for the next few days. Got to get as smooth with this as I feel with the Women's Fashions.

Aaaah ~ This time the Fashion Sketch flowed smoothly. Peaceful, happy drawing. I just got right into it. I love doing this.

Good thing that I got my feet wet with a Fashion Sketch yesterday.

It's all about the Approach

Posted 24 days ago

Switching gears. Again. It's so worthwhile that I change my game while I'm still in the studio. Took a bit to get back into Fashion Sketches for an upcoming Wedding.

I feel good with tonight's exercise. I used a random photo that I found online. Quickly brought me up to snuff. I wouldn't want to go through this sort of confusion when I'm At the Event ~

My first attempt was a total bomb. But it made me laugh. Am I 10 years old?

2nd attempt here ~ ooops. I didn't leave enough room for the hair. In this particular case, the Model had tall hair:

Oh-oh. What sort of expression is This? And what happened to the nose???

My 4th attempt here ~ still a stiff drawing style. Okay, but I was not happy to be drawing this way. So I threw in the towel when I egads ~ how did I mess up the groom's sleeve like that??

I decided that I should practice an Individual Fashion Sketch before I get into Couples Fashion Sketches. Yes of course. First just make a decent fashion sketch.

Well..... okay..... but I don't like it. If I'm not liking my picture, I would feel awful to be handing it to people at an Event:

Okay! I made real progress here with this last one I drew tonight. I am There!

I remembered that I'm here to draw the FASHION. Not the Caricature! So I predrew some simple proportion indicators, making sure to leave enough room for that head and hair, but then I DREW THE FASHION FIRST. And added the head/hair afterwards. Like the opposite of what I do when I'm hired to draw Caricatures. With my Caricatures, it's usually just about the Face. If there's any indication of body/clothes, that's an afterthought. But with FASHION SKETCHES, it's about the Fashion. Yes I usually indicate a Face along with the Fashion Sketch, but the Face is the afterthought.

I will feel fine for drawing at the Wedding. I still have several Weeks to get in the groove.

I just wish I remembered to draw the veil ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
