Body Shape

January 31st, 2008

Why is it that sometimes we can do things so well, yet other times we can’t do that very same thing?

Why is it that sometimes when we do things real well, we can’t recognize it. And we think it’s no good.

You know I’ve been struggling lately with my tentative efforts towards solidifying the form of the human body. Yet here’s one of my pictures that I found while cleaning up my end-table (Apparently I haven’t cleaned that for several years).

Such graceful form. I’m posting it here so I’ll remember it and be inspired by it:

In My Car

January 27th, 2008

So busy. Worked on a Studio Caricature all week. Caricature gig on Friday. Face Painting gig on Saturday, and another Face Painting gig today. My house is falling apart. It’s tax season. And I think I’ve discovered the answers to life - if only I had time to work on them.

But what I did do is listen to the Arkhams new cd on my way home from tonight’s gig. It was really soothing because a friend disappointed me. I loved it all so much that I blasted the volume for the last 20 minutes of my ride. Whoops. It was fun, but now I need some

silence.

Glad the house was quiet when I got home. Came up here and recaricatured one of the most recent pictures that I drew here:

And how about this one:

Chemistry Teacher

January 22nd, 2008

My Studio Clients usually have lots of ideas about all sorts of details they want in the Picture. So instead of doing a lot of facial exaggerations, I end up working like an illustrator - putting together all those things to tell a story. Here’s one I recently did for a woman who just got her first job as a Chemistry Teacher in a High School:

Modeling the Model

January 12th, 2008

I got to get out of here already - 10-year-old’s party in Brooklyn this evening. But I got glued to my own studies.

I used to study Animation from Mark Stansberry (creator of Puddin). And the first thing we did at each class was to draw a live model. I revisited one of those drawings today. My own self-imposed assignment was to add form to the old picture.

Here’s the old picture, my first try of today, and then the one that I liked. I can see that the first one had plenty of form. But it was too tight, too closed.
